The Max Planck Institute for the History of Science (MPIWG) is seeking to appoint a part-time (50 %) Editorial Assistant (m/f/d)

The post is tenable from November 15, 2021, and for a fixed-term contract until September 30, 2025.

The newly appointed colleague will join the team of the Lise Meitner Research Group “China in the Global System of Science”. For further information on the research group see: https://www.mpiwg-berlin.mpg.de/research/departments/lise-meitner-research-group.

Your tasks:

  • The setting up and day-to-day management of academic publication projects, including editorial work for English collective volumes and journals (with the support of a student assistant)
  • Copyediting, proofreading, formatting according to publishers’ style sheet, creation of bibliographies and indexes for academic texts in English and possibly German and Chinese, translations from German to English
  • Correspondence with authors and publishers, and organization of publication workshops (with the support of the departmental assistant)
  • Editing of English texts, e.g. for the website of the research group, its in-house publications (incl. the Observations short paper series), calls for papers/conferences, other communication

Anforderungsprofil:

Your profile:

You should have experience in editorial tasks and management in an academic publishing environment, native English language competency, and ideally a working knowledge of German. Language skills in Chinese are an asset. You should have a very good command of IT programs (for text processing, formatting, manuscript organization including bibliographing and indexing, possibly also image editing).We are seeking a dedicated, reliable and creative colleague with a genuine interest in academic work and the ability to work in a team.

What we offer:
